The walls of a Sikh elementary school in Brampton were cleaned of vandalism after racial epithets were spray painted on the building.

Brampton officials said the Khalsa Community School, on Maitland Street, near Bramalea Road and the Williams Parkway, was vandalized on Tuesday.

A swastika and “KKK” were reportedly scrawled on the exterior wall of the school’s gymnasium.

By Wednesday morning, the spray paint had been cleared from the school.

Brampton is home to one of the largest South Asian populations in Canada. Statistics Canada says that 31.7 per cent of the city’s population is of South Asian descent.

It is the second high-profile racial incident to hit the Greater Toronto Area community in recent months. In April, a 16-year-old girl

posted a video on YouTube saying too many “turbanators” attended her high school and complaining about the smell of curry.

The video was later removed and Peel Regional Police did not press charges.
