A youth faces several charges, including attempted murder, after a 17-year-old was stabbed Sunday night on the city's east end.

Toronto police said the 16-year-old, who cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, was allegedly in a fight with the victim between 11:30 and midnight.

As a result of the altercation, around Dundas Street East and Brooklyn Avenue, the boy was stabbed, police said.

He remained in critical condition in hospital Sunday night, but police expect him to survive.

The accused surrendered in connection with the incident on Monday, and faces a total of eight charges, police said.

The suspect is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday.
