The search for a young boy carried away by the Otonabee River has ended. Avrey Pringle's body was removed from the river Thursday evening.

The incident occurred at Inverlea Beach at about 10:30 a.m. The beach does not have a lifeguard on duty.

Pringle had been swimming with family and friends, got caught up in the river's flow and was then carried under the Parkhill Road Bridge, which is in the centre of the city.

An OPP helicopter was brought in to help with the search. OPP dive teams were also used.

The drowning is the latest in a string of similar incidents in southern Ontario.
