The Toronto Blue Jays have designated infielder Russ Adams for assignment less than two weeks after calling him up from the minors.

The 28-year-old Adams was dropped from the roster on Friday, the same day the Jays activated outfielder David Dellucci from the team's triple-A affiliate in Las Vegas.

The team has 10 days to either trade, release or re-assign Adams, but it is expected that he will accept his assignment to the triple-A squad.

In the eight games he played in this season, Adams had four hits and scored two runs.

The Jays made Adams their first-round pick during the 2002 draft.

Prior to being called up on June 20, Adams had not played in the major leagues since the 2007 season.

In 286 career games, all with the Blue Jays, Adams has batted .247, scored 125 runs and hit 17 home runs.
