Belleville police are urging anyone with information about the disappearance of a local woman to call them instead of posting tips on the Internet.

Helicopter and ground searches have failed to find Jessica Lloyd, 27, who vanished on Thursday evening.

As of Tuesday, more than 33,000 people joined a Facebook group dedicated to finding her, and posted messages of support.

People are also leaving tips on the group's wall about possible sightings of the woman.

Deputy Chief Paul VandeGraaf is urging people to call investigators directly, if they have relevant information.

"We'd be cautioning people to keep the Facebook posts to that emotional levels and giving support to the family but if anyone has anything that is in any way factual, to get it to us," he told the Belleville Intelligencer.

"Even if they think it may be small it may be the piece of the puzzle we're looking for."

Family and friends are plastering the town with posters displaying information about Lloyd's disappearance.

Someone sent a text message from her cellphone around 10:30 on Thursday night. She has not been seen or heard from since.

Lloyd is described as five-foot-five and 125 pounds, with green eyes and dark brown, shoulder length hair. She has a tattoo of an intricate "L" that spans the width of her lower back.

She may have been wearing brown suede boots, a sweater, and a vest at the time of her disappearance.

Anyone with information should call Belleville police at 613 966-0882 extension 2313 or Crime Stoppers at 613-969-8477.
