A Belleville resident will spend seven years in jail for fatally shooting a man and wounding another during a St. Patrick’s Day party in March 2010.

Myles Hughes, 24, was sentenced to nine years in jail minus two for time he had already served in pre-trial custody and house arrest.

This spring, Hughes was convicted of manslaughter in the death of 24-year-old Roy Mays Jr. Hughes was also convicted of aggravated assault in the wounding of 19-year-old Justin Coughlan, Mays’ cousin.

Hughes was also found guilty of numerous weapons offences.

In March 2010, both Mays and Coughlan were shot outside a Victoria Avenue home in Belleville.
