The mighty convoy transporting six massive beer vats is running behind schedule and isn't expected to arrive at its final destination until Saturday.

The one-kilometre-long convoy was originally supposed to arrive at the Molson Coors brewery at 1 Carlingview Ct. near Pearson International Airport and Highway 401 on Wednesday morning.

The new arrival time is slated to be Saturday morning.

Halton police said Monday the convoy is on the east shoulder of Bronte Road just north of Britannia Road, about three kilometres south of Milton, and will resume travel at 9 p.m.

The Challenger Motor Freight convoy will travel north to Derry Road West, then make the following moves:

east on Derry to Trafalgar Road

north on Trafalgar Road to Steeles Avenue

eastward on Steeles Avenue to Winston Churchill Boulevard and then eastward into Peel Region

The convoy set out from Hamilton harbour on Friday evening.

The GTA experienced a heavier-than-predicted snowfall early on Saturday. The cold and snow has reportedly made it more difficult to move hydro and other lines hanging over roadways.

More than 1,600 will have to be lifted.

The vats are like giant jet engines. They are 45 metres long, eight metres high and more than seven metres wide. They can hold about six million bottles of beer.

The 108-km route from Hamilton to the brewery was charted to avoid overpasses that simply don't have enough clearance to accommodate the vats.

Otherwise, the road distance from the harbour to the brewery is about 66 km.
