Toronto Police are asking for help in the investigation of an elderly man who volunteered with youth baseball, after child pornography was reported on a computer he had dropped off for repair.

Police said Tuesday at a news conference that there's no evidence at this point that the suspect is involved in distributing or producing child pornography images or videos.

"We have seen most of these images before," said Det. Paul Krawczyk of the service's child exploitation services unit.

That being said, a full forensic analysis of the computer will take some time, he said.

But police are interested in knowing more about the suspect's background and whether he was involved in coaching children through his role as founder of the Weston Baseball Association, Krawczyk said.

The association involves children as young as four years old, he said. But Krawczyk said there have been no allegations that any child was abused.

The association has been operating for about seven years.

Stephen (Steve) Lane, 65, of Toronto was charged Monday with possession of child of pornography. He is being held in custody pending a court appearance on Friday.

Anyone with information is asked to call the child exploitation section at 416-808-8500 or call Crime Stoppers.

Lane lives with his brother in the Lawrence Avenue West and Weston Road area.

"He's a baseball coach, and he's a very good one, and he was very good to the kids," said neighbour Wanda Walsh. "If a parent didn't have the money and their child wanted to play -- listen, he'd have them right in there in no time."

Added John Loos: "I couldn't believe it. I was thinking he was the nicest neighbour you could have."
