TORONTO - A man facing a number of G20-related explosives and weapons charges will spend two more weeks in detention before finding out if he'll be released on bail.

Byron Sonne, 37, was arrested June 22 and is accused of possessing dangerous weapons and explosives for an unlawful purpose, among other charges.

After being postponed several times, the bail hearing ended Monday and the court reserved its decision until July 20.

Defence lawyer Joseph Di Luca said he was looking forward to the ruling but declined to comment further, saying the matter was still under judicial consideration.

A publication ban is in force for Sonne's bail hearing.

Police have released little information about the case, except that the investigation relates to G20 summit security.

Sonne's wife, Kristen Peterson, was also arrested but later released on bail with the condition to have no contact with her husband and live with her parents.

Peterson, 37, is charged with possession of an explosive device and possession of weapon for dangerous purpose.

Sonne is also accused of mischief, attempted mischief and intimidating a justice system participant.

The intimidating charge is rarely used and is associated with threatening or harassing judges, lawyers, or jurors.

According to an acquaintance, the computer expert was critical of the $1-billion summit security tab and wanted to hold security forces accountable by documenting and allowing the public to see and understand where money was being spent.
