Toronto Police say an autopsy is to be conducted on a dead body found in the Humber River on Saturday.

However, they didn't say when it would take place.

They received the call about the discovery at about 1:30 p.m. after a kayaker spotted the body near Islington Avenue and Steeles Avenue.

"Emergency Services personnel arrived on scene and located a deceased person in the water," police said Tuesday in a news release.

Officers at 31 Division are currently investigating. They are withholding the dead person's name pending positive identification.

However, the person may have been a Toronto man in his 40s who had previously been reported missing.
