Thousands of TTC customers won't get their August Metropass in the mail, the public transit agency announced Tuesday.

The TTC said it made the decision to avoid any disruptions due to a potential labour disruption at Canada Post.

TTC spokesperson Brad Ross said about 53,000 customers currently subscribe to the TTC's prepaid Metropass Discount Plan. Normally, the payment for August would be deducted toward the end of July but instead of deducting that payment this month, Ross said the accounts would be credited with the difference between the MDP discount and a regular pass.

Customers who do not choose to get an August pass will still be credited the difference, Ross said.

“We won’t be able to verify if you buy a pass or not,” he said. “We’re going on the assumption that you signed up for the program, so you want an August pass. If you don’t want a pass, you don’t have to get one.”

Senior and student subscribers will receive a $9.25 credit, while regular adult subscribers will receive an $11.75 credit – the difference between the MDP price and the cost of a monthly pass that has not been mailed.

The TTC said customers can buy passes at a subway station collector booth, vending machine or at a third-party seller. August passes go on sale at retail outlets on July 18, at subway station vending machines on July 21, and at collector booths on July 24.

The change will not impact organizations and institutions that are part of the Volume Incentive Pass.
