CAMBRIDGE, Ont. - ATS Automation Tooling Systems Inc. (TSX:ATA) says it's reducing its workforce in Cambridge, Ont., by 80 full-time employees.

The company, which designs and makes equipment that's used by manufacturing companies in several industries, is also reducing the workforce at its Photowatt subsidiary in France by 160 workers.

ATS says the job cuts are necessary to bring the size of its workforce in line with customer requirements.

In total, the company employs 2,700 people at 17 manufacturing facilities in Canada, the United States, Europe, Southeast Asia and China.

ATS equipment is used in the healthcare, computer and electronics, energy, automotive and consumer products industries.

The Photowatt division makes parts for the solar energy industry.
