Toronto police have issued an arrest warrant for an Uber driver after a woman says she was sexually assaulted during a ride.

According to a police, a 21-year-old woman used the Uber app to arrange for a drive home from the Wellesley Street and Church Street area between 3 a.m. and 3:40 a.m. on June 20.

Police say when the woman arrived at home she was sexually assaulted inside the Uber vehicle.

After an active investigation that included co-operation from Uber, police say they identified the 41-year-old suspect. 

A warrant has been issued for the arrest of Fareborz Karandish. He is described as having a tanned complexion, large build, short salt and pepper hair, and facial hair. He may be driving a 2014 black Honda Civic with Ontario licence plate BWME 623.

In a statement to reporters, an Uber Canada spokesperson said the driver has been removed from the system.

"These are distressing allegations and our thoughts are with the rider...We will continue to work with the authorities during their investigation."
