TORONTO - A man is facing 23 charges after Toronto police began investigating complaints about an online Romeo.

Police say a man used dating websites to lure single women into relationships.

It's alleged the man posed as a successful businessman to gain the trust of the women, then opened bank accounts and applied for credit cards in their names.

Police say the man would break up with the women before their banks could notify them of the fraud.

The total amount lost is pegged at more than $40,000 over a six-month period last year.

Jason Porter, 37, faces charges including using a credit card obtained by crime, laundering proceeds of crime, break-and-enter and failing to comply with probation.
