Delays at Toronto's island airport have been cleared up following a technical problem on the ferry terminal.

A hydraulic failure on the ferry dock was blamed for the snag, which left a few hundred passengers stranded on the island.

However, the delay lasted barely an hour before crews got the system up and running again.

Hundreds of passengers take the short ferry ride every day to Billy Bishop Airport, but a proposed tunnel to the airport could be in service in the coming years.

The 123-metre tunnel had faced stiff opposition from some locals, who are awaiting another environmental assessment due on Jan. 12.
