Metrolinx, the regional transit agency for the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area, estimates that once the new line is done, 227,500 more people will be within walking distance of public transit and daily car trips will be reduced by at least 28,000. The Ontario Line is part of the province’s $70 billion investment to upgrade public transit in the city over the next 10 years and also includes the Scarborough Subway Extension, the Eglinton Crosstown West Extension, and the Yonge North Subway Extension. House Republicans push to link government funding to a citizenship check for new voters

U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson is heeding the demands of the more conservative wing of his Republican conference and has teed up a vote this week on a bill that would keep the federal government funded for six more months and require states to obtain proof of citizenship, such as a birth certificate or passport, when registering a person to vote.
