EIGHT MILE POINT, Ont. - Eight people were rescued after drifting in their boat for part of the night on Lake Simcoe.

Three adults and five children left their cabin on Eight Mile Point for a short boat ride around 7 p.m. Sunday.

Provincial police contacted the Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre at CFB Trenton three hours later after the group didn't return.

A Griffon helicopter from Trenton's 424 squadron spotted the group about 20 kilometres from the point at 4 a.m. today.

Their five-metre boat, which had broken down, was towed back by a police vessel.
