Some residents are waking up to downed trees and pooling on streets after a heavy storm swept across the GTA overnight. It’s not clearing up anytime soon - keep your umbrella handy this week as Environment Canada is calling for a soggy few days across Toronto. Environment Canada is calling for showers in the morning and wind gusts of up to 30 kilometres per hour. The rain is expected to clear by the late morning, as temperatures reach a high of 21 C.

Risk of flooding

Several strong thunderstorms moved through Toronto and southern Ontario late Sunday, causing torrential rainfall, hail, high winds and power outages. Environment Canada is also warning about flash flooding across the city.

Woman struck by Brampton bus dies

A woman is dead after being struck and pinned by a bus in Etobicoke on Monday morning.
She was struck by a Brampton Transit bus in the area of Finch Avenue West and Humberline Drive shortly before 6 a.m., police said.

TRAFFIC

Streetcar track work to close down Dundas/Spadina district

Among the many delays in the city, there’s new streetcar, watermain and roadway work at Spadina and Dundas. This will have a big impact on the downtown core from today until August 11. Dundas will be closed to traffic between Bathurst and University, while Spadina will be shut down between Queen Street and College as TTC crews work to repair track lines.

Pedestrians will have full access to the area and businesses will remain open.

Coming off back-to-back wins against the New York Yankees over the weekend, the Toronto Blue Jays will head to Boston to take on the Red Sox at Fenway Park. Monday's game is set to start at 7:10 p.m.

First World War 100th Anniversary Ceremony at Black Creek Pioneer Village

Commemorate the 100th anniversary of the First World War with a special ceremony honouring those who served or perished on the battlefields. Hockey commentator Don Cherry, the York Regional Police Male Chorus and Pipers from the White Heather Pipes and Drums will be on hand at the event.
