Four people have been taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after a two-vehicle collision on the Gardiner Expressway.

According to police, a vehicle was travelling east on the highway when it came to a stop in a passing lane at around 3:20 a.m. and was struck from behind by another vehicle.

The three people in the vehicle that was struck were initially trapped and had to be extricated by emergency crews.

"Of the four parties involved, three have suffered major injuries but it doesn’t appear to be life threatening at this point, so the cleanup has begun," Const. Cliff Stibbe told CP24 at the scene early Thursday morning.

All but one eastbound lane was blocked, but the highway has since fully reopened.
