2 dead in minivan-school bus crash near Timmins: OPP
Provincial police say they began investigating last month after hearing from other law enforcement agencies that drugs were being imported in vehicles shipped to Canada by rail.
TIMMINS, Ont. - Provincial police say two people are confirmed dead after a minivan and a school bus collided Friday morning near Timmins, but it's not believed any children were on the bus.
Const. Marc Depatie of South Porcupine OPP says police are still investigating the incident that happened at about 5 a.m. southwest of Timmins.
He says a fire occurred after the crash and police must conduct a thorough investigation of both vehicles once it is safe to do so.
Due to the hour that the collision occurred, it's not believed that any passengers were on board the school bus. The identities of the two dead are yet to be confirmed.
Police and fire officials remained on the scene Friday morning and the roads around the intersection were closed while the investigation continued.
Motorists are asked to avoid the area until the investigation is completed.
