A marijuana grow operation worth $2.3 million was discovered over the weekend when a fire erupted on a farm in Bradford West Gwillimbury, Ont.

The South Simcoe Police were alerted to a blaze inside a barn on Simcoe and Canal Roads at around 5 a.m. Sunday.

Authorities immediately knocked on the door of a house located just 20 feet away from the barn in an effort to wake up the residents. When no one answered the door, police forced their way in and discovered the house was filled with marijuana plants.

Police say they found about 2,300 plants.

Marijuana plants were also found in the barn though the barn was completely destroyed in the fire.

Two male suspects in their 40s have been taken into police custody.
