Six youths, including a 12-year-old girl, and three adults face numerous charges after two machine pistols were found during a search of a home in Scarborough’s L’Amoreaux neighbourhood on Tuesday.

A robbery earlier in the week prompted police to execute a search warrant on a home in the area of Victoria Park Avenue and Finch Avenue East, Toronto police Det.-Sgt. Gerald Heaney told CTV News Toronto.

“We were able to identify two of the individuals we believe were responsible for the robbery,” Heaney said. “After officers executed the warrant and secured the premises to search for evidence in relation to that robbery, the outstanding young person attended (the scene) and came home after the officers were there.”

The man reportedly fled on foot after seeing police at the residence, but after a short pursuit, officers were able to arrest a suspect.

“They (allegedly) found a fully loaded .45 calibre carbine semi-automatic pistol on his possession,” he said.

Officers say they also found an AB Arms ASR 9mm machine pistol, two small magazines and a high-capacity drum magazine along with 88 rounds of ammunition at the home.

“(The weapons were) in an area accessible to everyone in the house, not in a concealed hiding spot, so that’s why we have a 12-year-old that has been arrested as well,” Heaney told CTV News Toronto. “Unfortunately, we can’t say with certainty whose firearm it was. Everyone that has access or availability to a spot that is open to everyone would be jointly charged with that offence. And that will be a triable issue at court.”

Investigators also allege the serial numbers on both guns were tampered with.

“This is an area where we have had crime violence over the past year and we are appealing to members of the public,” said Heaney.

Six youths, ranging in age from 12 to 17 years-old were arrested and charged. They cannot be identified as per the terms of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Three adults, an 18-year-old man, a 24-year-old woman and a 39-year-old woman were also taken into custody.

All nine accused face a combined total of 111 firearms possession offences.

The three adults appeared in court at College Park on Wednesday morning, while the youths appeared at 1911 Eglinton Avenue East to answer to the charges.
