York Regional police say Louis Vuitton shoes, UGG boots and True Religion jeans are just some of the items seized as part of a large bust of an alleged shoplifting ring involving seven suspects.

Police say they first caught wind of the alleged shoplifting ring in April 2012 when they received repeated calls about thefts at The Shoe Company on Yonge Street north of Davis Drive in Newmarket.

In each case the description of the suspects was the same and they got away before police could arrive.

But after a recent appearance at the store on March 27, store staff were able to get a description of the vehicle the suspects used to escape.

Police tracked down a blue 2005 Nissan Altima at Highway 9 and Highway 400 as it was en route back to Toronto. Inside, police found $10,000 in stolen property, consisting mainly of shoes and clothes.

Two women in the vehicle were arrested and charged with theft.

Five more people were arrested and charged in connection with the thefts in the weeks that followed.

In all, police say they have seized $80,000 in stolen property as part of the investigation. They also seized $7,000 in cash and $8,000 in property believed to have been obtained through the proceeds of crime.

Timberland boots, Air Jordan sneakers and Lacoste shoes were also found among the stolen items.

Police are now trying to find the rightful owners of the property and to determine when it was taken.
