Police were called to a downtown Toronto streetcar tunnel overnight when a woman's vehicle got stuck on the tracks.

The woman drove into the Queens Quay tunnel, located near the foot of Bay Street, shortly before 4 a.m. on Friday.

When she realized her car was stuck, she called Toronto police for help, Const. Caroline de Kloet told reporters. The driver told police she didn't see the signs warning drivers not to enter the tunnel.

A tow truck was called and the car was removed from the tunnel, de Kloet said. The tunnel is used by the 510 Spadina and 509 Harbourfront streetcars but the incident occurred during the TTC's off hours, so the morning commute was not affected.

A similar incident happened at the tunnel in November, when a tourist mistakenly entered the tunnel on a Saturday morning. TTC service was disrupted for six hours as crews worked to remove the car from the tracks. At the time, TTC representatives told CTV Toronto it was the third incident in three months that someone had driven into the tunnel.
