GUELPH, Ont. - A young woman is dead and a man is in hospital after an early-morning crash on Highway 401, south of Guelph, Ont.

Police say a pickup truck crashed in the centre medium of the 401 near Highway 6 South around 3:10 a.m.

Ontario Provincial Police Constable Graham Williamson says the two occupants of the truck were thrown from the vehicle. One landed in the eastbound lane and the other in the westbound lane.

Police say an 18-year-old woman from the Durham Region was pronounced dead at the scene.

A man in his 20s was rushed to hospital.

The 401 was closed for several hours following the crash and fully reopened around 7:20 a.m.
