Toronto Paramedics say a woman in her 70s was rushed to hospital in life-threatening condition after she was struck by a car in the Scarborough Junction neighbourhood on Sunday night.

Emergency crews were called to the corner of Eglinton Avenue East and Midland Avenue, for a report of a pedestrian struck by an SUV in the intersection at 7:44 p.m.

Police said the woman tried to cross Eglinton Avenue from the north side to the south side but was not in a crossing area. The vehicle and driver involved remained at the scene, police said.

She was taken to a hospital trauma centre via ambulance emergency run.

Police closed the eastbound lanes of Eglinton Avenue East at Midland Avenue to allow for cleanup and an investigation.

At noon Sunday, a man in his 80s suffered serious head injuries when he was struck while crossing Eglinton Avenue East at Falmouth Avenue on a motorized chair, just a short distance from where the woman was struck Sunday evening.
