All westbound lanes of Highway 401 have reopened in Milton after a fatal crash late last night.

OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said a transport truck and a small passenger vehicle collided on the highway near Guelph Line at around 11 p.m.

He said it appears that the driver of the car may have lost control of the vehicle when he was struck by the transport truck in the westbound lanes of the highway.

The driver of the car, identified by police as a 30-year-old man from Guelph, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Schmidt said weather conditions may have played a role in the crash. He added that the roads may have been slick due to a mixture of rain, freezing rain and snow.

All westbound lanes of Highway 401 were closed at Guelph Line for several hours this morning but reopened shortly before 7 a.m.

Schmidt said crews needed a little more time for collision cleanup due to a diesel spill.

Schmidt advised drivers to give themselves extra time to get to work this morning as traffic is slow and the road is still wet.

Anyone with information about the accident is asked to call Ontario Provincial Police in Cambridge.
