Toronto police have identified the man gunned down in a broad daylight shooting in the city’s King West Village over the weekend.

John Ignagni, 33, was found suffering from multiple gunshot wounds in an underground parking garage near King Street West and Crawford Street at around 12:30 p.m. Sunday.

Officers were initially called to a collision in the area. When they arrived on scene, they located a vehicle with a man “in medical distress.”

Paramedics attempted to revive the victim but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators believe Ignagni was the intended target of the shooting.

Few other details surrounding the circumstances of the incident have been released but police confirmed that the Toronto Police Service’s homicide unit has taken over the case.

Witnesses at the scene on Sunday told CP24 they heard “what sounded like gun shots” come from the parking garage.

“I talked to my neighbor who said he heard five shots,” area resident Bill Nemesi said. “He was kind of questioning it, but after that we knew it was gunshots.”

A post-mortem examination is scheduled to take place today.

Anyone with information about the investigation is being asked to call police at 416-808-7400 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-TIPS (8477).
