Two workers have died following after a scaffolding collapse at a condominium construction site in Toronto's west end.

The workers were apparently doing brick work several stories above the ground when they came crashing down.

It happened at 1830 Bloor St., close to High Park, shortly after 11 a.m. on Friday.

Police said a 37-year-old man was rushed to St. Michael’s Hospital in life-threatening condition. He later succumbed to his injuries. His name has not been made public.

The other patient was pronounced dead at the scene. The man has not been publicly identified, but one construction worker on site told reporters he was in his 50s.

"I've known him since he was seven years old," one construction worker said.

"He's an amazing guy. Quiet, always friendly, always a smile on his face, and he just had a granddaughter."

The Ministry of Labour is investigating the incident.

A representative of the Bricklayer's Mason's Independent Union told CTV Toronto “all safety precautions were taken and this was just an accident.”

Mitchell Cohen, president of The Daniels Corporation, which is developing the building, called it a “tragic accident.”
