Two people have been taken to hospital after a fire at an apartment building in Scarborough on Sunday afternoon.

It broke out in the third floor of the building, located on Torrance Road, around 3:45 p.m., Toronto Fire said.

Callers described the fire as being at the back of the building and firefighters attempted to use a ladder to remove people inside. Two people were eventually taken out of the building through the second floor elevator.

Both people were taken to hospital, although Toronto Paramedic Services could not reveal the extent of the injuries.

The fire was extinguished before 4 p.m.
