New Year’s Eve revellers who are ringing in 2014 with alcoholic beverages have plenty of options to get to their celebrations or home responsibly and safely.

Public transit is free between certain hours for those who aren’t getting a ride with a sober driver.

Police will be patrolling the streets and setting up RIDE checkpoints to nab impaired drivers.

In Toronto, the TTC is offering free service from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. under a new three-year deal with sponsor Corby Spirit and Wine.

Late night service is extended on most routes. Here are additional details from the TTC:

  • Most routes with Monday-Friday late evening service will continue until 4 a.m., with the Blue Night Network operating from 4 a.m. to 9 a.m.
  • Last trains on the Yonge-University-Spadina line will leave Union Station at 3:30 a.m. for Finch Station and 3:34 a.m. for Downsview Station.
  • Last trains on the Bloor-Danforth line will leave Bloor-Yonge Station at 3:37 a.m. for Kipling Station and at 3:37 a.m. for Kennedy Station.
  • Last train on the Scarborough RT line will leave Kennedy Station at 4:07 a.m. for McCowan Station.
  • Last train on the Sheppard line will leave Sheppard-Yonge Station at 3:58 a.m. for Don Mills Station.

The TTC is operating on a Sunday schedule on New Year’s Day, meaning subway service begins at 9 a.m.

Free GO Transit service

GO Transit rides are free between 8 p.m. and the start of regular service Wednesday morning, and the agency is running special trains along most lines, including late night homebound trips.

Here are details from GO Transit:

Lakeshore West GO line

  • Two special train trips from Union Station at 1:30 a.m. and 2:30 a.m. will make all stops to Aldershot GO.
  • Bus trips from Union at 1:30 a.m. and 2:30 a.m. will be replaced by the special trains.
  • Bus connections with the special trains will be available at Aldershot GO.
  • Two additional Toronto-bound train trips from Aldershot GO at 12:04 a.m. and 1:04 a.m. will make all stops to Union Station.

Milton GO line

  • Special Toronto-bound train trips from Milton GO at 8:10 p.m. and 9:10 a.m. will make all stops to Union Station.
  • Special bus trips from Square One to Cooksville GO to connect with special trains.
  • Special homebound train trips from Union at 1:20 a.m. and 2:30 a.m. will make all stops to Milton GO.
  • Some trips on GO Bus routes 21 may experience new and adjusted service, some trips will not operate.

Kitchener GO line

  • Special Toronto-bound train trip from Mount Pleasant GO at 8:00 p.m. will make all stops to Union Station.
  • Special Toronto-bound train trip from Georgetown GO at 8:51 p.m. will make all stops to Union Station.
  • Special homebound train trips from Union at 1:30 a.m. and 2:30 a.m.
  • GO Bus routes 31, 34, 36, 38 may experience new and adjusted service, some trips will not operate.

Barrie GO line

  • Special Toronto-bound train trips from Allandale Waterfront GO at 8:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. will make all stops to Union Station.
  • Special homebound train trips from Union at 1:25 a.m. and 2:25 a.m. will make all stops to Allandale Waterfront GO.
  • GO Bus routes 63 and 65 may experience new and adjusted service; some trips will not operate.

Richmond Hill GO line

  • Regular bus service departs Union Station hourly between 8:40 p.m. to 2:40 a.m.

Stouffville GO line

  • Special Toronto-bound trip from Lincolnville GO at 8:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. will make all stops to Union Station.
  • Special homebound trip from Union at 1:40 a.m. and 2:40 a.m. will make all stops to Lincolnville GO.
  • GO Bus route 71 may experience new and adjusted service, some trips will not operate.

Lakeshore East GO line

  • Special homebound train trips from Union at 1:20 a.m. and 2:00 a.m. will make all stops to Oshawa GO.
  • GO Bus route 88, 90 and 91 may experience new and adjusted service, some trips will not operate.
  • Special Toronto-bound train from Oshawa at 12:38 a.m. will make all stops to Union Station.

On Wednesday, GO Transit is operating on a Sunday schedule.
