Toronto transit users will see a 10-cent hike in fares starting March 1, the TTC board confirmed by vote on Monday.

The transit board voted unanimously in favour of the fare hike which was a small part of Mayor John Tory's $95-million plan for TTC improvements.

Tory's overall budget plan is currently being reviewed by a committee hearing from the public, then will need to be approved by city council. However, the fare hike only required approval from the TTC board.

As a result of the vote, token prices will increase 10 cents, from $2.70 to $2.80, starting next month. Those opting to pay cash, instead of buying tokens, will still pay $3.

The following fares will also be affected:

  • Monthly adult Metropasses will increase from $133.75 to $141.50
  • Weekly passes will increase from $39.25 to $40.75
  • Metropass Discount Plan adult passes will increase from $122.50 to $129.75
  • Metropass Discount Plan student/senior passes will increase from $98 to $102.75
  • Monthly student/seniors passes will increase from $108 to $112
  • Day passes will increase from $11 to $11.50

Though several fares are increasing, children under 12 will be able to ride for free starting in March.
