A candlelight vigil is being held at a Scarborough bus stop this evening for a 14-year-old girl who was struck and killed Friday by a TTC bus.

Meanwhile, police are looking to speak with six people who may be witnesses in her death.

Amaria Diljohn, 14, was killed by the 133 Neilson bus at the corner ofFinch Avenue East and Neilson Road, at approximately 5:40 p.m. Friday.

She had been attempting to cross Neilson Road from east to west when she was hit by the 133 Neilson bus, which did not remain at the scene, according to police.

At the vigil, a friend said she had hugged Diljohn goodbye before she boarded a bus at a mall just minutes before the incident.

Const. Clint Stibbe said he’s looking to speak with six passengers who would have been on board the bus some time between 5:15 p.m. and 6 p.m., on Friday.

“These witnesses were observed on board by the TTC in bus security camera,” he said.

It wast oo early to know whether the 27-year-old driver was aware he hit the girl, Stibbe said earlier on Saturday.

It is not clear whether the driver came forward to police.

No arrests have been made but the driver is being interviewed by investigators, said Stibbe.

Police had called the incident a possible hit-and-run Friday night before they located the driver.

Stibbe said video evidence is being reviewed and he is asking any witnesses to contact police. “We’re looking at the entire situation to determine exactly what happened.”

It is not clear whether the girl had been on the bus that struck her. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The TTC said they are co-operating fully with the investigation. “The thoughts and prayers of everyone at the TTC go out to the girl's family during this very difficult time,” a spokesperson said.
