The 21-year-old driver of a transport truck that tumbled off a ramp and crashed onto Hwy. 401 Monday has been charged with careless driving, OPP say.
The crash, captured on a dash-cam, happened when a tractor-trailer travelling southbound on Hwy. 404 lost control and fell onto the westbound lanes of the 401. The truck hit two other vehicles. The truck driver and two other motorists were taken to hospital with minor injuries. Miraculously, no one was seriously hurt in the crash, which shut down all 401 westbound express lanes for hours.
In a statement Tuesday, OPP confirmed that the driver of the Volvo transport truck, identified only as Mr. Sukhjitsingh, 21, of Brampton, was charged with careless driving under the Highway Traffic Act.
He is scheduled to appear in court in May.
Earlier Tuesday, OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt told CTV News that the truck appears to have been driving too fast for the Highway 404 ramp, where the posted speed limit is 50 km/h, when it lost control at the start of the afternoon commute on Monday.
No defects were found on the truck or its trailer, Schmidt said, noting that it has been taken for a mechanical inspection.
