Toronto police have charged a taxi driver after a woman was allegedly sexually assaulted early New Year’s Day.
Police say that the woman flagged down a taxi in the Bloor and Markham streets area shortly before 6 a.m. on Jan. 1.
She was driven to the Bathurst and Carr streets area, where she was followed out of the taxi by the driver and sexually assaulted as she approached a home, police say.
The man then fled the scene in his vehicle.
On Jan. 2, police arrested and charged a suspect in connection with their investigation.
Jeyakumar Balasubramaniam, 38, of Toronto, is charged with sexual assault.
He is scheduled to appear in court Feb. 3.
