TORONTO -- Toronto police say they believe a 78-year-old woman whose body was found in her apartment on the weekend was murdered.

Detective Mike Carbone says an unknown person entered the apartment of Manijeh Bostani-Khamsi on Friday and that following an altercation, she was murdered.

Her body was found Saturday morning in her apartment on Wynford Drive, in the Don Valley Parkway and Eglinton Avenue East area.

Police are asking neighbours in the multi-storey complex to think back to last Friday afternoon and evening and to come forward if they have any information on her death or her whereabouts that day.

Carbone would not disclose the cause of death but says an autopsy was done and there were obvious signs of trauma.

He says police don't believe her death was a random incident, adding the woman was widowed and lived alone in the unit.
