A Toronto man has been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting at a Vaughan cafe that left one man dead, and another with serious injuries.

In a statement released on Sunday, York Regional Police say the 24-year-old suspect was arrested without incident after he turned himself in to members of the homicide unit.

Police say the shooting happened last Friday at about 6:40 p.m. at a café on Woodstream Boulevard, near Highway 7 and Martin Grove Road. Police say the victim, Sarhad Sadiq, 36, of Nobleton, Ont., was pronounced dead at the scene. The other victim, who has not been named, suffered serious injuries. Police said on the weekend he remained in hospital.

On Saturday, police appealed to the public for assistance in locating the suspect. They also urged him to seek legal counsel and surrender to law-enforcement officials.

"The jig is up," Sgt. Clint Whitney said on Saturday. "You might as well just come in."

The suspect, David Odesho, has been charged with first-degree murder and attempted murder. He is scheduled to appear in a Newmarket court on Monday morning.

Police say they are not searching for any other suspects at this time. However, they are still looking for a white, four-door, Mazda 3 that was seen leaving the scene of the shooting. Its license plate is BRFS163.

Anyone with information is asked to contact York Regional Police's homicide unit at 1-866-876-5423, ext. 7865 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
