Toronto is finally getting some summer heat with mostly sunny weather forecasted for the Victoria Day long weekend.

After a cold, windy and even snowy spring, the weekend kicked off with the sun shining and temperatures reaching 22 C on Friday. There was a high UV index rating of 7 by Environment Canada, who urged anyone spending time in the sun on Friday to cover up and wear sunscreen.

Areas around Lake Ontario were cooler, reaching temperatures of 17 C.

There will be some clouds in the sky on Saturday with a temperature of 19 C. But the sun will come back out for the rest of the weekend, with temperatures on Monday reaching 28 C -- the hottest of the weekend just in time for fireworks.

Those heading up north to Barrie, Muskoka or Haliburton will also have sunny weather for the weekend, with temperatures reaching 22 C.

After the weekend, there will be some rainy and cloudy times ahead, with a 30 per cent chance of showers on Tuesday and Wednesday. There will also be some humidity with temperatures expected to reach 30 C.
