A Canadian family who returned home Sunday after being stuck in Greece for five days due to SkyGreece’s shuttered operations says the airline “spoiled” their vacation.

Peter Fotiou and his son Stavros returned to Toronto after being stranded in Greece for three days following the shutdown of SkyGreece on Thursday.

“It’s frustrating, its nerve-racking and it’s five and a half thousand dollars later,” Stavros said after arriving at Pearson Airport on Saturday.

Earlier this week, SkyGreece announced that it would be temporarily ceasing operations after it cancelled its fourth flight in one week.

Following the announcement, SkyGreece issued a statement to its passengers who were stranded due to the cancellations.

"SkyGreece Airlines would like to apologize to all of its passengers who have been affected as a result of the company's current operational crisis," the statement said. "The founders, managers and employees of SkyGreece care deeply about their passengers and have been working around the clock to resolve the problem."

But an apology isn’t enough for many passengers, like Peter, who were stranded by the discount airline.

“My vacation was spoiled completely,” Peter said.

The start-up airline has only one plane, based in Toronto, and leases a second, which is based in New York. The airline had been in operation for approximately one year.
