A Toronto-area doctor who faces numerous child pornography charges was released on bail Friday.

The presiding judge freed the 39-year-old emergency room physician on $20,000 bail and also placed a publication ban on evidence presented in court.

Kevin Speight, a physician at the Trillium Health Centre in Mississauga, and the Franklin Medical Centre, in Cambridge, was charged with two counts of possession of child pornography, one count of accessing child pornography and one count of making child pornography.

The charges came following a raid on his home near the Front and Jarvis Street area Thursday.

Police seized a quantity of computer equipment which allegedly contained child pornography during the raid.

Trillium Health Centre said Speight has been suspended without pay pending the outcome of the hospital's internal investigation as well as the police investigation and court proceedings.

"We felt that these charges were of a serious nature and that to protect our patients we needed to suspend the doctor's privileges at that time," a hospital spokesman told CTV Toronto.

Speight is due back in court on Dec. 15.
