TORONTO -- A full police funeral is set to be held next week for a Toronto officer who died from injuries he suffered in a crash over the weekend.

Const. John Zivcic was responding to an emergency call about an impaired driver late Saturday afternoon when his vehicle collided with another car in the city's west end.

He was rushed to hospital and had several operations over the weekend, but he ultimately died of his injuries early Monday afternoon, surrounded by family.

Toronto Police Association president Mike McCormack says Zivcic will be remembered at a full police funeral Monday at the Toronto Congress Centre.

The woman driving the second vehicle was treated in hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

Zivcic, who is survived by his mother, brother, sister, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, has been described as a well-respected, hardworking police officer who was with the force for more than six years.

Police say a public visitation has been scheduled at the Del Moro Funeral Home on Sunday.
