The Toronto Transit Commission says it is working with the city to try and minimize the impact of road closures on the busy King West corridor ahead of the Toronto International Film Festival.

A “pedestrian promenade” hosted by TIFF is set to shut down King Street from University to Spadina avenues for the four-day Festival Street event starting on Sept. 8.

“We have shared concerns about the closure and its impact on customers,” TTC spokesperson Brad Ross said Tuesday morning, “but TIFF is important to the city and is bigger than just the TTC, so we'll do all we can to ensure service runs as smoothly as possible.”

The 504 King, 514 Cherry and 304 King (night) streetcar services will all be affected by the TIFF festival closures.

“Anyone who takes the 504 (streetcar) from the west, it will divert north on Spadina to the Charlotte loop and streetcars coming from the east will be diverting up York Street,” Ross said.

John Street between King Street and Wellington Street will also be closed starting Sept. 8, according to a City of Toronto news release.

Drivers and residents who use the streetcar services or King and John streets should “allow extra time to get to and from their destination,” the release said.

TIFF is set to begin on Sept. 8 until Sept. 18.
