A suspect wanted in connection with a string of bank robberies is currently in police custody following a dramatic arrest in Etobicoke Wednesday evening.

According to police, officers spotted the suspect at a pizza restaurant along The Queensway, near High Street, at around 7:30 p.m.

The man, who was reported to be armed and dangerous, was alone and in possession of a previously-stolen pickup truck.

Officers attempted to arrest the suspect in the parking lot, but he was able to drive onto The Queensway, where he was subsequently boxed in by officers and arrested.

No shots were fired. Three cruisers were damaged in the takedown, police said.

The man was wanted in connection with bank robberies in Toronto, Mississauga and York Region that have occurred in recent weeks, police said.

His name and age were not immediately provided.
