Three men from the Niagara region face kidnapping and weapons charges following a bizarre incident that briefly shutdown the Queen Elizabeth Way in Oakville Friday afternoon.

According to police, a man claimed that a window of his vehicle had been shot out around 2:10 p.m. near Burloak Drive and Lakeshore Road as he attempted to leave the area.

The man drove the vehicle to a plaza at New Street and Walkers Line in Burlington where he met police.

Although police said no shots were fired, the victim's car was damaged.

Meanwhile, another vehicle was stopped on the westbound Queen Elizabeth Way near Walkers Line a short time later and three occupants of that vehicle were interviewed and subsequently arrested by police. A handgun was also seized.

A 36-year-old Niagara Falls, Ont. man, a 34-year-old Thorold man, and a 35-year-old Crystal Beach man face various kidnapping, firearm and dangerous weapons charges.

"There was some damage caused to the car which he felt was done by a shot but it turned out it wasn't," said Halton Regional Police Staff Sgt. Peter Hodgson. "I think we can safely say that at least one of these people caused damage to his vehicle."

Hodgson would not say why the three men face kidnapping charges. However, investigators do not believe this was a random incident.
