KINGSTON, Ont. -- Kingston police are looking for a Grinch who made off with a life-sized Santa figurine that was spreading holiday cheer outside a local gas station.

They say the thief who stole the icon of Christmas snuck up on Old Saint Nicholas (at Princess Street and Victoria Street) around 2 a.m. Wednesday and ripped off his top section, leaving only his red pants and the plywood stilts holding him up.

The suspect then fled across the gas pumps while clutching the half-Santa.

Police say it's believed he then met up with two other people before the group headed off westbound with Santa in tow.

He's described as a white male, 20 to 40 years old, medium to heavy build with dark hair that is possibly longer at the back and possibly a small moustache.

Police say the suspect wore a red ball cap with a black brim that has a graphic on the front, possibly a circular reflective sticker on the brim and a small reflective sticker on the rear centre, a black button-up waist-length coat with a crest on the left breast and a large graphic on the back, a lighter-coloured hoodie underneath, dark pants and dark shoes.
