This year’s month-long Pride celebrations are wrapping up this weekend. The theme of this year’s festival is “You can sit with us,” citing the importance of diversity, inclusion, and acceptance. Here are the top ten free family-friendly events happening in town:

FRIDAY

  • Worn With Pride – Montgomery’s Inn – June 30th to July 24th

In collaboration with the Canadian Lesbian and Gay Archives, this month-long exhibition will showcase artifacts from LGBTQ history, including posters, t-shirts, buttons, and others. The exhibit will open Thursday, June 30thwith a one-night community pop-up museum. Tours run July 10th and 17th from 2 - 4 p.m.

  • BQY Bloq Party – Gould and Victoria streets – 7 – 11 p.m.

Join other youth on Ryerson campus for this showcase of high-energy performances by Black, African, Carribean, and multiracial youth in a celebration of identity, youth, and Black culture.

  • Two-spirit Rainbow Pow Wow – TD Village Stage – 7 – 11 p.m.

This event is programmed by and for two-spirit people, and will have appearances and performances by two-spirit artists. Examples include DJ Shub, Shawnee, and Juno Award-winning duo Digging Roots. There will also be a showcasing of Indigenous art and music to top off this celebration of the two-spirit members of community.

SATURDAY

  • Family Story Time - Toronto Public Library, Yorkville Branch, 22 Yorkville Ave - 10:30 - noon

This event is the family-oriented portion of a series of readings and storytelling with the Glad Day Bookshop. The series features works read aloud by LGBTQ authors and storytellers. This family-focused event will showcase queer-focused children's books at the Yorkville Branch of the Toronto Public Library.

  • Fruit Loopz - Ryerson's Fido Quad - 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Young artists take over the stage to showcase a festival of arts, words, ideas, and a celebration of trans and queer youth. Youth from across the gender spectrum will show their talents in this family-friendly, alcohol-free space in the 14th anniversary of the event.

  • Drag On! – Yonge-Dundas Square – 2 p.m. to 11 p.m.

This event is a sequel to last year’s largely successful drag ball. This year’s event hopes to break a Guinness World Record for the largest drag stage performance. Many famous queens from RuPaul’s Drag Race will perform, including Derrick Barry, Darienne Lake, Chi Chi DeVayne, BenDeLaCrème, Gia Gunn, Shangela, Alyssa Edwards, and a DJ set by Pearl. Season 6 winner Bianca Del Rio and legendary queen Lady Bunny will co-host the event. Performances will also include over 50 local queens.

  • Family Pride – Church Street Public School, 83 Alexander Street – July 2nd and 3rd at 10 a.m.

In the spirit of inclusion and diversity, the Family Pride event runs two days on the ground of an elementary school, and features programming for children up to age 12. There will be sports, games, crafts, face painting, storytelling and live performances.

SUNDAY

  • Village Streetfair – Church, Wellesley, and Alexander streets - Friday 7 p.m. - 2 a.m., Saturday 12 p.m. - 2 a.m., and Sunday 12 p.m. - 11 p.m.

The Village Streetfair runs all weekend in the historic Church and Wellesley Village. Vendors will line the streets, with food, art, music, games, and information on their dedication to the queer community.

  • Art Fair - Alexander Parkette - Saturday and Sunday, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Youth from a number of schools and artistic groups showcase their work. Pieces will focus on identity, legal status, their experiences with mental wellness, and other social justice efforts. This event coincides with the Street Fair nearby.

  • The Final Play – Yonge-Dundas Square – 2 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Pride will go out with a bang this year as it ends its month-long festival with the Final Play, featuring performances by Joe Jonas and DNCE, Well-Strung, Alex Newell, Honey Dijon, and Pride Toronto's International Honoured Guests, The Prancing Elites. RuPaul, the world’s most famous drag queen and host of RuPaul’s Drag Race, has also announced an appearance at the event.
