A teen is in hospital with serious injuries after being shot in the chest Tuesday night.

Police say the boy was shot in the chest after answering the door of the townhouse where he lives on Cecil Street, located south of College Street and Spadina Avenue, shortly before 10 p.m.

“Apparently he was confronted at the door by an unknown suspect at this point, and as he opened the door he was fired upon,” Toronto police Insp. Tim Crone told CP24 at the scene.

He was transported to hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries, Toronto EMS said.

Crone said there were other people in the townhouse at the time of the shooting.

Police are currently canvassing the area for evidence and potential witnesses.

“We’d like to speak with anyone in the neighbourhood or who lives along the street who might have seen anything at all,” Crone said.
