A Markham teenager is facing a murder charge after a 28-year-old man was fatally stabbed behind a library early Sunday morning.

The victim, Markham resident Allen Constance, was found near the Markham Village Library on Highway 7 East just before 3 a.m., York Regional Police said.

He was rushed to hospital, but succumbed to his injuries.

Police surrounded a nearby house where the 17-year-old suspect remained for several hours before surrendering peacefully. He was arrested on a first-degree murder charge and will appear in a Newmarket youth justice court on Monday.

York Regional Police Insp. Angelo De Lorenzi told CTV Toronto the victim and the suspect knew each other through friends, but it's unclear what led to the altercation.

Anyone with information about Constance's death is asked to call the York Regional Police homicide unit at 1-866-876-5423, ext. 7864 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
