A 16-year-old Ontario boy has been charged in connection with a number of "swatting" calls that sparked a massive police and emergency services response on different occasions.

The teen, who cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, was arrested earlier on Wednesday.

Police say Ontario Provincial Police at the Nottawasaga detachment has been receiving hoax phone calls since February. The threatening calls resulted in a "high level of police and emergency services response." Police didn't say when or where those calls were placed.

On Wednesday, police executed a search warrant at a New Tecumseth, Ont., home in connection with the "swatting" investigation. Police arrested the teen, and a number of electronic devices were also seized. He has been held for a bail hearing in Barrie.

Wednesday's arrest comes after other recent "swatting" incidents in Ontario, including one north of Toronto over the weekend.

Police received a call from a man who said his father had shot a family member. But when police burst through the doors of the Richmond Hill, Ont., home, police found a family shocked to see them. York Regional Police wouldn't confirm to CP24 if the teen had any connections with that "swatting" incident.
