TORONTO - The Toronto Symphony Orchestra's interpretation of the beloved Canadian children's book "The Hockey Sweater" premieres tomorrow at Roy Thomson Hall.

Dora Award winner Abigail Richardson composed the piece and the book's author, Roch (ROCK) Carrier, will narrate the story onstage.

Carrier also narrated the National Film Board version of "The Sweater," released in 1980.

Famed former Montreal Canadiens goaltender Ken Dryden will host the performance that's part of an all-Canadian concert program.

First published in 1979, "The Hockey Sweater" is about a Quebec boy's love of the Montreal Canadiens and his horror at receiving a Toronto Maple Leafs jersey when he outgrows his Habs sweater.

The book is often seen as a parable about French and English relations in Canada.

But Carrier says he didn't intend for that to be the case.

He says he just wrote -- quote -- "a little story about a personal experience."
